It appears that the pheasant population has survived the harsh winter in great shape. Driving and walking our hunting areas has produced good numbers of pheasants. The hens have started to nest so the next month will tell how good the hatch is. We are in great shape with moisture which is vital to the survival of the chicks.

Fishing for walleyes will start soon with many Northerns being caught from shore. Lake Oahe will be record full in a couple of weeks from all the run-off from western North and South Dakota.

Planting season is upon us and once the fields dry we will be going.

Give us a call if you have questions about hunting or fishing.

    winter pheasants and fishing

Hi everyone, It appears that nothing has happened here for two years but that's not true. We had an excellent year last year. We had record numbers of hunters and a very good year of pheasants.

This winter has been cold and snowy for a long time. We hope the pheasants survived and should have because of the cover and food we have in our hunting areas.

Ice fishing has been good when you could get out and this summer should be excellent.

If you have questions about hunting or fishing, give us a call.

It looks to be a great fishing season in 2009 because the ice fishing was great and the lake level is supposed to rise another 12' by July. Our area is above normal for moisture so any snow or big rains we get will probably run off.

Give us a call if you're looking for a place to stay while you are fishing or if you are inquiring about a total fishing package.

    Winter survival for the pheasants

We just finished our pheasant hunting on our preserve and I'd have to say the pheasants have survived the winter very well, so far. If we don't get a huge snow or freezing rain storm from here on, we look to be in great shape for the 2009 hunting season. We have approx. 120 acres of food plots out yet and the birds have trimmed them up pretty well. They are fat as pigs proving that food plots are vital to their survival.

The down economy hasn't effected us too much yet, so we are grateful for that.

The walleye are jumping in the boat with 17-21 in. fish being caught all over the river. The one spot that seams to be better than others is if you are on the river or on land. The river is the best spot!!!!

The lake is up 15+ ft. from the low of last year so things are looking good.

    Spring pheasant hatch

I received an e.mail from my Daughter today stating that I hadn't updated this site for a while. We've been busy with the planting of crops and food plots. From the looks of things I would say our hatch is going to be wonderful. We've had lots of moisture this spring and lots of bugs which makes for happy little chickies. We are starting to see broods of little pheasants all over the place and the brood size is big, 10-15. If things look as good this fall, we will have to shoot in self defense!!!!

We have a few spots available for this fall so give us a call.

I drove to the fields yesterday afternoon to see how the birds were wintering. There's lots of food out there yet so they should be fat as pigs. If we have reasonable spring moisture there will be pheasants all over the place next year. There's 1000's of hens out there which could make for many little chickies.

We still have room left this fall because we are adding two bedrooms. We also have a couple of prime dates available. Get your deposits in to insure your spaces.

    December hunting

A lot of people think December is cold and snowy here. Not always true. Most day time highs are in the 30-40 degree range so can be perfect hunting. Most crops are off the fields so the birds are bunched in large groups. One of the more fun times to hunt. If there is a lot of snow, it keeps the birds from running on you.

Consider a December hunt; you won't be disappointed.
